Santhia Learning Journey

In this first stage of Santhia, we will cover the fundamentals of learning Gurbani Santhia. You will start by learning 35 Akhar, Pair Bindi Akhar, Lag Matra, Muharni, and General words. You will then build up to reading sentences and larger paragraphs as you get comfortable to begin your journey to reading Gurbani.

Nitnem Santhia covers 7 Banian - Jap Ji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Tua Parsad Svaye, Chaupai Sahib, Anand Sahib, Rehras Sahib, and Kirtan Sohila. The Guru’s hukam is for a Gursikh to recite these banian daily as bare minimum. As you learn Santhia of these banian it is also encouraged to learn these banian by memory.

In this stage you will re-visit some banian from Nitnem. This is a great way to do abhiyaas of Gurbani Santhia as well as an introduction to more banian from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. We will also encourage you to start learning how to read Gurbani in larhivaar as we start to advance your santhia. Panj Granthi is recited daily in addition to Nitnem by many Gursikhs, Katha Vachaks and Head Granthi Sahiban. This banian include Jap Ji Sahib, Shabad Hazaray, Rehras Sahib, Kirtan Sohila, Dakhni Oan(g)kar, Sidh Gost, Anand Sahib, Baavan Akhri, Sukhmani Sahib and Asa Di Vaar.

Baee Varaan is a compilation of 22 vaaran from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. These varaan include: Sri Raag Ki Var (Mahalla 4), Maaj Ki Var (Mahlaa 1), Gauri Ki Var (Mahalla 4), Gauri Ki Var (Mahalla 5), Asa Ki Var (Mahalla 1), Gujri Ki Var (Mahall 3), Gujri Ki Var (Mahalla 5), Bihagre Ki Var (Mahalla 4), Wadhans Ki Var (Mahalla 4), Sorath Ki Var (Mahalla 5), Soohi Ki Var (Mahalla 3), Bilaval Ki Var (Mahall 4), Ramkali Ki Var (Mahalla 3), Ramkali Ki Var (Mahalla 5), Rakali Ki Var (Rai Balvand), Maroo Ki Var (Mahalla 3), Maroo Ki Var (Mahalla 5 Dakhne), Basant Ki Var (Mahalla 5), Sarang Ki Var (Mahalla 4), Var Malaar Ki (Mahalla 1), Kanrhe Ki Var (Mahalla 4)

When completing your Das Granthi Santhia you will re-visit some banian from Nitnem. This is a great way to do Abhiyaas of Gurbani Santhia as well as an introduction to more Banian from Sri Dasam Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. This banian include Jaap Sahib, Shabad Hazaray P:10, Akaal Ustat, Bachitar Natak, Chandi Charitr, Chandi Di Vaar, Gian Parbodh, Khalsa Mehma, Tethi (33) Svaye.

Students will be encouraged to learn how to read Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in Larhivar (a tradition of Taksal). Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is 1430 angs comprised of 60 raags (31 shudh and 29 mishrat), with the bani of 6 Gurus, 15 Bhagats, 11 Bhatts and 4 Gursikhs.

Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji is a compilation of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s bani. This includes: Jaap Sahib, Akal Ustat, Bachitar Natak, Chandi Charitar Ukati Bilas, Chandi Charitar II, Chandi di Var, Gyan Prabodh, Chaubis Avtar, Rudra Avtar, 33 Sawaiye, Khalsa Mahima, Shashtar Nam Mala Purana, Ath Pakh-yaan Charitar Likh-yatay and Zafarnamah.

Upon completion of Santhia, students are then given the responsibility of passing on the knowledge they have gained to others.
